Big McDonald LID: Notes from the Chairman:

There is a tinge of fall in the air; time to share some highlights of this summer and LID activities.

· Boat Parade

The 2019 Big McDonald Lake boat parade continued the long tradition of the 4th of July kick-off celebrations. Thanks to the organizers and float boaters who braved windy conditions to put on the show.

· Tree Planting

BMLID’s “Let’s Plant a Tree” project was a success; 50 trees were planted around the lake this July. Thanks to all who participated and the young RMB Lab volunteers who planted the trees. Those who participated this year are eligible to plant 1 or 2 trees in 2020. Newcomers to the project, including new BMLID property owners, are welcome. Consult the BMLID website for more information and sign-up forms; $3,500 remains in the tree planting grant fund.

· Fish Stocking

Minnesota DNR will stock walleyes in the lake this fall; BMLID will stock in 2020 with 2018 stocking funds withheld when an early lake freeze-up prohibited stocking and 2020 allocated funds.

· Water Testing

BMLID volunteers have completed 2019 water sampling in the lake and Ditch 25. Each year their efforts provide another set of data points in the water quality record. The record allows the BMLID board to track trends in lake water quality. Thanks to those who sample.

The Big McDonald LID board looks forward to getting together with LID members at the annual meeting next June. Please encourage your neighbors, especially those absent last year, to attend!

Craig Johnson,

BMLID Chairman
